However, because of the huge demand last season and Vuba always wanting to make sure it is at the forefront of the resin bound revolution, we have decided to keep the classic collection whilst also improving upon them with our NEW Wonders of the World 2020 range.

We now source a majority of our aggregates directly from quarries, and so we have changed and improved our blends to introduce you new aggregates not previously available in the UK, and more importantly, to pass on our savings to you the Contractor.

These 2017/2019 kits are still fully supported systems, equipped with a 10 Year Warranty (upon application) and we will keep an amount on stock. This range is still generally regarded as the best in the industry, now in #2 place to our New Range! 

PLEASE NOTE: the 2017/2019 Classic Silver Highland & Icelandic Volcano has now been upgraded and blended with our Sterling Silver Aggregate - a richer, higher quality shade. Eventhough this is still an extremely similar colour match, this shade will represent a slight colour change from last season's blend's.

Availability:
All 20 blends are still available, and we still support the 10 year warranty (upon application). Please note, we will keep less stock of these blends in 2020 than of the new range. Some of the less popular blends may not be kept in immediate stock, but can be ordered.

It is possible for you to reconstruct most of our previous blends using our range of individual aggregates, which you can find here. You can then buy the resin binder kits, which you can see here. All previous blend aggregate 'recipes' are available by contacting us. We have parted with the 'One Price for All Blends' method for 2020, and now price all of our aggregates individually, along with our new Vuba Price Promise (see below). Therefore, you may be able to source your kits cheaper by sourcing the aggregate and resin like this on our website.

2020 Wonders of the World
The range is the most diversely sourced, of the broadest colour and tone range, and by far the most subtle, beautiful and uninhibited range of colours available to UK and Irish contractors. The blends are compromised of Flint, Quartzite, Granite and Marble.

We have worked with quarries worldwide to develop and source this next generation of aggregates exclusive to Vuba. And there is no equal or similar aggregate on the market. 

The depth of colour, the tonalities of the shades and the virtue of the marble finish combine to create something truly individual and iconic.

Cleaner and More Consistent
We believe our aggregates demonstrate unrivalled cleanliness, size uniformity and colour consistency. The result is less chance of shading and inconsistencies. 

Practically speaking, our new systems are easier to lay, more compact and stronger than traditional resin bound surfacing kits. The Wonders of the World kits contain an industry leading 4 or 5 different aggregate size gradings per blend.

Such a complete matrix of aggregates sizes, gradually grading up from 0.4mm up to 6mm in diameter throughout the full spectrum of the blend is a significant step forward in resin bound technology led by Vuba. The average blend consistents of the following

And by using quartz as a binding agent instead of sand, you do not see the same grainy / sandy look that can be experienced with other resin bound systems.

The Resin Bound Aggregate Kits on this page are bound using ValtexTM Resin Binder and are suitable for both pedestrian and vehicle use. This kit already contains the appropriate resin binder, 7.5kg UV Stable ValtexTM Resin Bound Resin Binder. 


We manufacture our resin binders ourselves, on site, and have put our systems through 1,000's of hours of testing. There are 4 factors to the strength of a Resin Bound System, that we take into consideration when creating out kits.

1. Resin to Aggregate Ratio
2. Resin / Isocyanate Formulation
3. Aggregate Quality
4. Blend Specification

1. Resin to Aggregate Ratio:
The FeRFA Resin Flooring Association now has a guide to the appropriate ratio of resin to aggregate. The Resin Bound Industry is a developing market, with new research coming into practise each year. Our Wonders of the World Kits already comply to the standards set within the guidelines. 

The guidelines state that a ratio of 7.06% of resin is required to the total amount of aggregate. So this would be an example:

Latest research has shown that unberound resin bound systems caused by undersized resin kits can result in early stone loosening. This is more pronounced in the event of a secondary issue, such as with the Formulation, Aggregate Specification or The Blend Design. See how these factors can affect the strength of a resin bound system below. 

Research and insight such as this is a benefit of working with a long established supplier of resin systems, as well as decorative aggregates. 

2. Resin / Isocyanate Formulation
The ratio of Resin A and Hardener B has determining effect on the overall mechanical strength of the system. We manufacture VALTEXTM and MarbleBoundTM using a high Isocyanate content formulation. Isocyanate is the 'expensive' part of the formulation, essential for a high Shore D Hardness value. You can see typical Mechanical Properties for our Valtex and Marblebound Resin Binders below.

UV Stability:
Some suppliers will offer a none UV stable form of resin. That is where a cheaper Hardener B is used, which turns yellow / brown within hours of sunlight. We do not offer any resin binders which are not UV Resistant.  

3. Aggregate Quality
An aggregate blend which is very fine can require up to 30% more resin to achieve the same level of saturation, our research has shown. Secondly, there are significant differences in the absorbency rates of different aggregates. 

The specification of the aggregate used within your system has a large determining factor on the strength. Porous aggregate or excessively fine aggregate will require a larger volume of resin to successfully encapsulate the stone than a more size consistent aggregate, or an aggregate which does not 'chalk' easily.

It is important to understand how aggregates work within resin bound systems, and to ensure you have a FeRFA Compliant Resin Binder. One of the motivating factors to changing our blends for the Wonders of the World 2020 was to improve size variation and minimise absorbency of the component aggregates.

4. Blend Specification
The blend design has a large impact on the strength of a system. Addition of our binding quartz alone will increase the overall strength of a resin bound system by 20-30%, research has shown. 

Similarly, a greater size variation of equal and suitable deviation can ensure a more compacted system.  We have an even dispersion of diameters, weighted towards the larger size by weight.

Some of our blends will have a range from 0.4 - 0.8mm, 1mm to 3mm, 2-4mm, 2-5mm, 4-6mm. Each size overlapping the previous. Greater compaction helps to prevent stone loosening due to vehicle turning etc.

When you order one of our Classic Wonders of the World 2017-2019 Trade Kits, you will receive the following:

4 x 25kg Aggregates 
1 x 6.25kg Binding Quartz (Included as Standard)
1 x 7.5kg UV Resistant ValtexTM Resin Binder

The resin is supplied pre-catalysed, therefore no requirement for additional mixing processes. The 113.75kg kit size is designed to be mixed in a large pan forced action mixer.

The aggregates are presented in 4 washed and dried bags. The aggregates in these kits are supplied at a 3:1 ratio of 2-5mm & 1-3mm aggregates per kit. 

The Binding Quartz is now inlcuded as standard because it reduces colour shading, increases aggregate bond strength and enhances slip resistance. 

Coverage Rate:
Each Kit will cover 3.65m2 @ 18mm nominal thickness. We would always recommend to allow for wastage and undulations in your surface by ordering 5-10% wastage.


DIY Kits:
It is possible to buy the same blend in a 1 Bag Kit format, that can be mixed with a Drill and Paddle or smaller 25 Litre Mixing Vessel, such as an 'SPE Mix It 25'. These smaller kits are available here.

Delivery Method:
Your delivery will arrive by pallet delivery. The method of arrival will be detailed in the order confirmation email. Delivery vehicles will arrive equipped with a pallet truck and ability to offload the delivery.

Online orders received after 12pm will be counted in the following working day. Orders are processed on working days only. Delivery times are estimated in working days unless specified a Saturday delivery.

Returns are not generally accepted due to batching concerns. All orders are supplied are as part of a recorded batch. Contact us for more information, or view our returns policy.

How is it Calculated?
You can see the calculated delivery cost when you have add the product to the basket. We charge per pallet delivery for Resin Bound Aggregates, based on our cost. 

We calculate your delivery charges using a combination of Total Order Weight (and therefore pallets) and the Post Code you enter.

Perimeter Edging:
Protect all edges abutting soft landscaping with brick, steel, timber or concrete to prevent damage to the surfacing. Edgings should be securely fixed to prevent movement. A flexible joint filler should be used at edgings where there is potential for movement to separate the surfacing from the edging. We provide trims for resin bound systems should you need them.

Concrete Preparation:
Prepare concrete by mechanical means to provide a sound, clean, dry substrate that is free from laitance and suitable for application of the resin bound surfacing. Concrete should be primed prior to application using our Easiprime or Epiprime (and seeded with a 1.4 - 1.8mm quartz).

Asphalt (Bituminous Macadam) Preparation:
Allow the asphalt to oxidise for 7 days prior to application of the VALTEXTM Resin Bound Surface. It is not a requirement to prime asphalt surfaces.

Sub-Base:
Before application of an Asphalt / Tarmac base, concrete or cellular grid, there should be in place the correct sub-base. This would be a minimum 150mm depth of well compacted Type 3 granular sub-base to SHW clause 805, or 4/40mm, 4/20mm crushed aggregate to BS EN12620 or locally available secondary or recycled aggregates which comply with the above specification blinded with 2/6.3mm graded crushed concrete aggregate to BS EN12620.

Concrete:

1. Concrete bay proportions should be ideally 1:1 and should not be greater than 3:2, long narrow strips of concrete will crack across the bay width and these cracks are likely to be mirrored in the surfacing.
2. Open bay joints are likely to cause cracking in the surfacing and formation should be prevented by application of Polycrete repair mortar into the joints. Bays should be linked with steel mesh reinforcement, or if already in place, a surface grade mesh should be embedded in the surface using an epoxy bedding coat.
3. Ensure that the concrete has a minimum design strength of C35 and that the concrete has a minimum compressive strength of 25N/mm2 before the surface is prepared, in accordance with BS 8500-2:2015.

Drainage:
Ensure that falls are in place to an adequate drainage system when applying to an impermeable concrete base. Water will flow through the VALTEXTM system and run across the concrete surface.

Asphalt (Bituminous Macadam):
The bitumen binder of asphalt concrete must have a pen value no greater than 100/150, when tested in accordance with EN 1426 Needle Penetration Test. It is advisable to use a harder grade of bitumen when machine application is possible and 70/100 pen (or harder) is preferred.

Bituminous materials with a higher pen value will be too soft and may deform in warm weather. Adequate compaction of the sub-base and base is essential to prevent cracking. A minimum 1 tonne “sit on” roller should be used when possible and the contractor must ensure that the construction is fully restrained at all edges to ensure dimensional stability.

Drainage:
Rainwater will flow through the permeable VALTEXTM Resin Bound System, and through the open grade binder course. An integral drainage system is not required.

Cellular Grid:
We would recommend to use a cellular grid of 40-50mm in depth. The grid should be set on to a well compacted sub-base as laid out above. The cellular grid should then be filled with well compacted 4/10mm graded crushed aggregate to BS EN12620. The in fill aggregate must be compacted to ensure the profile of the cellular grid is still visible, and capable of bonding to the resin bound system. 

Failure to compact the stones within the grid correctly will result in a slump of the resin bound material through the grid, causing delamination. 

Suitable Mixing Equipment:
Large Pan Forced Action Mixer (Such as Baron E120 available from Vuba, here). We have unbeatable price deals on these mixers here.

Suitable Resin Binder:
7.5kg VALTEXTM or 8kg MarbleBoundTM 

Mixing Guidance:
1. Scrape all of the contents of VALTEXTM / MarbleBoundTM Resin Bound Surfacing B component into the larger Resin A component container and mix with a slow speed drill (≤ 450RPM) and MR2 paddle mixer attachment for 60-90 seconds. Overmixing will increase heat generation and reduce working time.
2. Simultaneously, add 100kg of aggregate to the Large Pan Forced Action Mixer, Baron 120 Litre Capacity Mixer or similar approved. Followed by addition of the 6.25kg Binding Quartz. Do not allow the aggregate to rotate dry for more than 60 seconds. Excessive dry mixing forms dust in the mixer, which will darken the batch, resulting in shading issues throughout the application. 
3. Allow the aggregate to begin mixing and immediately add the mixed resin to the aggregate in the mixer until all the aggregate is evenly coated with resin. Mix for approximately 3-4 minutes. Overmixing will increase heat generation and reduce working time, in addition to shading issues.
4. Using a wheel barrow, discharge the mixed resin and aggregate onto the prepared surface or into one of our ease of application Rozzi Sledges, then level and smooth. Ensure to compact to even firm composition.

Application Advice:
1. Finish the surface with a suitable float. Vuba Solvent should be used if required to clean trowel before applying a closing finish to the resin bound surface. Close compaction is vital to prevent stone loosening. Most applicators will compact at right angles to how the material was spread out, applying pressure as the trowel is pulled back. 
2. If required for added slip resistance, immediately cast Crushed Glass onto the top surface of the wet resin and aggregate, at the rate of approximately 0.1kg/m2. Ensure even coverage to prevent a patchy appearance.
3. Allow to cure and open to traffic as described in the Curing Time tables above.

Further Guidance:
1. Regularity and consistency of mixing times is essential to prevent shading within your Resin Bound System. Excessive mixing, especially of dry stone, will result in darker shading. It is imperative to keep track of your mixing times - making sure they're accurate and consistent.
2. Ensure you have all bags required for your project prior to commencement, and ensure you have sufficient material by marking coverage per mix on the surface. It is imperative to not run short of material for a fully seamless finish. You will be provided with a mix instructions sheet with each order in paper form & via email.
3. Ensure you have scheduled to apply your resin bound aggregate system during a period of suitable weather for both application and curing time. Ambient temperature is between 5oC & 25oC. Rain water can effect resin bound systems - best practice is to forecast your projects. At worst, have some means of lightly covering the area and making sure no leakage could be apparent.

New techniques, products and aggregates are being developed rapidly in the market of natural aggregates bound in resin, and applied to external landscapes. Our testing is divided into three stages.

1. Resin Binder 
2. Aggregate Kit 
3. Combined Resin and Aggregate Kit

For our Resin Binders ValtexTM and MarbleBoundTM, we test the following physical properties:

Tensile Strength
Elongation
Hardness

These tests are performed to BS2782 part 3 methods 320A-320F and BS2782 part 3 methods 320A-320F. 

For the Resin Bound Aggregates that we use, we either use the LA Abrasion Method, which we regard as the most relative to the success of a resin bound system, along with other aggregate test results detailed in 'Vuba Aggregate Testing' below. Although an empirical test such as the LA Abrasion Test provides excellent insight, we always put the most importance upon Field Test Results.

Finally, our resin bound systems are tested. These are a mix of both our Resin Binder and our Resin Bound Aggregate Kits. We test these in the following way:

Flexural Strength Test
Compression Strength Test
Resin Permeation Test

The results of these tests determine how we form blends, dictate the resin binders recommended for use with each Resin Bound Aggregate Kit, and determine where and how these products are applied. 

Vuba R&D Achievements:
Here's a way fews our Research and Development team have helped to move forward the market for resin bound surfacing, and related products.

1. We are the first new importer of resin bound aggregates for more than 15 years. We have developed and cultivated relationships with quarries throughout Europe, carrying out regular visits to further progress our offering beyond that of our competition.
2. We have researched, developed and patented two award winning products in the world of resin surfacing. Our Easihold Range has been nominated for awards worldwide, and is stocked by 100's of retailers.
3. We have developed a resin bound kit with 5 different grades of sizes. From a 0-4mm - 0.8mm pouch, to a 1-2mm stone, 1-3mm , 2-4mm, 2-5mm and 4-6mm. This larger dispersion of sizes within the blend creates a more compact, stronger finish.
4. We have introduced aggregates not previously in existence in the UK market. We have carried out extensive research and testing to their suitability.
5. We have changed to using a DKI Quartz to bind the resin bound aggregates together. A larger, more consistent size, and translucent colour provide a new development in resin bound technology.

We obtain testing data for all of the aggregates used within our blends. You can see those results in The Technical Specification below.

Below we will detail the testing methods involved in ensuring the suitability of this resin bound aggregate kit, and all resin bound aggregate blends within our WONDERS OF THE WORLD Range.

Aggregate Testing:
Our preferred method for testing aggregate suitability in isolation is the Los Angeles Abrasion Test. There is no specification for an LAC value to be used within resin bound surfacing. However, there are guidelines for SMA systems which can be used as a guideline; as well as understanding the results of commonly used existing resin bound aggregates, such as Quartzites. 

LA Abrasion Test
The standard Los Angeles Abrasion Test subjects a coarse aggregate sample to abrasion, impact, and grinding in a rotating steel drum containing a specified number of steel spheres. The amount of weight lost as a percentage of its original value is referred to as the Los Angeles Coefficient.

PSV
The PSV of an aggregate is a measure of the resistance of an aggregate to polishing and the value is established by subjecting the aggregate to a standard polishing process and then testing the aggregate with a portable skid resistance tester. The higher the PSV figure the greater resistance the aggregate has to polishing.

AAV
A mass of aggregate chippings are set in resin in a small test panel, and then subject to abrasion on a grinding apparatus. The loss in weight of the aggregate after a specified time as a percentage of the original weight is the AAV. This is the most comparable standard UK test to the LA Abrasion Test.

AIV
The aggregate impact value is a strength value of an aggregate that is determined by performing the Aggregate Impact Test on a sample. The AIV is the percentage of fines produced from the aggregate after subjecting it to a standard amount of impact.

ACV
The aggregate crushing value is a value which indicates the ability of an aggregate to resist crushing. The lower the figure, the stronger the aggregate ie the greater its ability to resist crushing.

Field Testing
Our aggregates have been rigorously tested in a real life environment, spanning many years. Before an aggregate is accepted as suitable we will have witnessed evidence of long term usage of the aggregate. The combination of lab based, empirical and field testing combine to present a picture of the strengths, weaknesses and suitability of each aggregate.

Advice regarding the usage suitability, warranty and life expectancy are shown below. 

Type of Use:
This resin bound aggregate kit is suitable for both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Ensure this product is applied on to a suitable base, and is not subject to misuse (see Product Limitations below). 

Warranty and Life Expectancy:
A 10 Year Warranty is available with this Aggregate Kit. Subject to application using a suitable Resin Binder, and application in accordance with our instructions. The life expectancy of this Aggregate Kit is 150% to 200% the warranty period. 

Product Limitations:
1. The minimum application temperature is typically 5°C (8°C when used without Accelerator) on a rising thermometer and maximum is typically 25°C. Ideal temperature conditions are 15 – 20°C.
2. The surfacing may be affected by the shaling action of tyres when vehicles are turning in confined spaces.
3. Tyres must not be turned when in a static position.
4. Wheels should not be regularly turned in confined spaces. Debris and loose stones must not be trafficked on to the resin bound surface, as this may result in de-lamination of the screed.
